Spitze - cyanotypie auf damast / cyanotype on damask

  

 Neulich hatte ich in meinem Atelier Besuch von Gesine Völlm.

Als ich ihr dort eine der ersten Cyanotypien mit Dessous-Motive zeigte, sagte sie spontan

„Spitze“.

Als eine in der Opernwelt international bekannte Kostümbildnerin meinte sie damit leider

nur das Material.

Ich hingegen finde hier die Doppeldeutigkeit der deutschen Sprache beeindruckend.

The other day I had a visit from Gesine Völlm in my studio.

When I showed her one of the first cyanotypes with lingerie motifs, she spontaneously said

„Spitze“.

Spitze has two meanings in the German language. First, it refers to the material lace.

But it can also mean great or super.

As a costume designer internationally known in the opera world, she unfortunately

meant the material.

I, on the other hand, quite like the ambiguity of the German language...
